This doesn’t even represent half of my books at the farm.
So, I’m obsessed with books. Collecting them, reading & smelling them, & especially looking for unique features or marginalia. I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by them. For years, my birthday gifts were bookcases because I kept expanding my collection. I was indulged.
Confession: I still need more bookcases. Yes, yes. Even though I’m at at least 15, or even more if you count the double stacks, to date, & overflowing. I have a horrible addiction; I’m aware of this. Thankfully, my loved ones tolerate & humor me, since schlepping these volumes during several moves over the last 20 years has taxed everyone’s patience.
Another reading nook.
Anyway. Someday, I’ll upgrade to custom built-in bookshelves, but for now these cases do quite well. Can you imagine Edith Wharton specifically rebound all of her books in different colored leather bindings to create patterns? That’s dedication to design! Not a cheap endeavor.
Certainly, I doubt I’d ever have that luxury, but still. I’m happy wherever there are books. That’s home to me! Glass-cased mahogany lawyers’ bookcases are particularly stunning, but one can dream!
A single stack bookcase near the kitchen.
Love it!
Thank you SO much! π
My ambition is to winnow down the books I have so they fit into all the bookcases I have. I suspect it is an ambition that will be thwarted.
Wasn’t it Cicero who said a room without books is like a body without a soul? You can’t NOT have books, and I can’t imagine parting with any of them unless for a good cause.
A woman after my own heart!
Thanks! Great to connect! π
Isn’t this just every bookworm’s dream? Haha it’s mine definitely! Maybe someday when I’m sure I can settle in one place I’ll expand my collection immensely π I heard they’re a pain to move houses with π
So true! Such a pain! That’s why the farm is a forever home! π
Wow! Can I ask, do you tend to read a book a second time, once you’ve read it and out it back on the shelf? π π
Yes, I do re-read books! Especially my favorites!
I think I used to… I need to get back on the fiction flex!
I have several series I reread every year and then fill in the gaps each month with new books. Rereading is like visiting an old friend.
So true!
This is totally dreamy, it’s looks so cozy and quiet! Thanks for sharing with us x
You’re so very kind! π
You have created such a lovely space with your books and reading nooks!
Thank you so much!! π
Kitty has a nice sunny spot to sit and read … or take a nap.
Yes. If we all could have that life! π
